Assam’s Semiconductor Unit: Driving India’s Digital Future with Cutting-Edge Innovation

0

India’s semiconductor ecosystem is set for a major leap with the establishment of a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing unit in Morigaon, Assam. Developed by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT), this ₹27,000 crore facility is poised to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily, using advanced technologies like flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP). The project, aligned with the India Semiconductor Mission, will cater to critical sectors like automotive, EVs, telecommunications, and consumer electronics, with completion targeted by mid-2025.

The Morigaon unit is more than a technological milestone; it’s a socio-economic catalyst. Expected to generate 15,000 direct and 13,000 indirect jobs, it promises significant economic upliftment for Assam and neighboring regions. Its high-capacity output will serve both domestic and global markets, positioning India as a vital player in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Under the ₹76,000 crore Semicon India program, the government is fostering a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem with incentives and initiatives like the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme and the establishment of fabs and OSAT facilities nationwide. Projects like Morigaon’s facility reaffirm India’s commitment to self-reliance, boosting innovation, creating jobs, and solidifying the nation’s role in the digital economy.
