India-France Strengthen AI Collaboration at Second AI Policy Roundtable in Paris

The Second India-France AI Policy Roundtable was held on Monday, at Sciences Po Paris, as an official side event to the AI Action Summit 2025. Organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, IndiaAI Mission, and Sciences Po Paris, the event fostered discussions on AI policy, governance, and innovation.

Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, opened the roundtable by highlighting India’s commitment to responsible AI development, equitable benefit-sharing, and the need for a techno-legal framework for AI governance. He emphasized the potential for deeper India-France collaboration in AI safety, research, and global governance.

The session was co-chaired by Amit A. Shukla, Joint Secretary, Cyber Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs (India), and H.E. Henri Verdier, Ambassador for Digital Affairs, French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Their remarks focused on AI governance, cross-border data flows, and the integration of AI in global challenges.

Distinguished experts, including Dr. Preeti Banzal (PSA Office, India), Kavita Bhatia (MeitY), Sharad Sharma (iSPIRT), and representatives from Microsoft Research, AWS, and the French government, explored key themes such as democratized AI access, multilingual large language models (LLMs), ethical AI deployment, and sovereign AI models. The discussions also emphasized sustainable AI, federated AI infrastructure, and cross-border cooperation in AI research.

Building upon insights from the First Roundtable at IISc Bengaluru, the event reinforced the shared vision of India and France for responsible AI governance, innovation, and ethical deployment.
