Tata Projects announced that construction of Micron Technology’s semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, is on track for completion by the end of 2025. This state-of-the-art Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility spans 50 acres in the Sanand industrial area and is a significant milestone for India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Amit Agrawal, Project Director at Tata Projects, revealed that 60% of the construction has already been completed since work began in July 2023. “This ATMP facility, one of the world’s largest backend semiconductor fab units, involves a workforce of 3,500 to execute the civil, mechanical, electrical, and engineering tasks. The remaining work will be finalized by December 2025, after which Micron will take the lead in operationalizing the plant,” Agrawal said.

In June 2023, the Gujarat government inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Micron for this $2.75 billion project, marking a pivotal step in India’s journey toward semiconductor self-reliance. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 5,000 direct jobs and an additional 15,000 indirect jobs, boosting the local economy and India’s semiconductor ambitions.

The Sanand facility underscores India’s commitment to becoming a global semiconductor hub, leveraging partnerships and investments to solidify its position in the global electronics supply chain.
