PM Modi Inaugurates IMC 2024, Highlights India’s Digital Revolution and 5G Leadership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 in New Delhi on October 15, emphasizing India’s success in democratizing digital technology. Modi also inaugurated the World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union, underscoring the global significance of the event.
“India has not only embraced telecommunications but has used it as a tool for equity and opportunity,” Modi remarked. He highlighted India’s journey under the Digital India initiative, focusing on reducing device costs, expanding digital connectivity, making data accessible, and prioritizing a ‘digital-first’ approach. Modi noted that India has laid optical fibre networks spanning a distance equivalent to eight trips to the moon, and in just two years, 5G has reached every district.
The event also saw remarks from Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani, who emphasized the transformative potential of AI in making India a global technology leader. Industry leaders like Xiaomi, Qualcomm, and Ericsson showcased cutting-edge advancements, including Meta’s Ray-Ban XR glasses, Qualcomm’s AI-driven processors, and next-gen 5G use cases.
