PSMC Partners with Tata Group to Establish AI-Enabled Semiconductor Facility in India

Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) Chairman Frank Huang has emphasized India’s potential to become a major producer of semiconductors, reducing its reliance on imports due to the growing demand for electronics. Huang’s remarks came during his visit to India to sign a definitive agreement with the Tata Group for building an AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication plant (Fab) in Dholera, Gujarat.
Huang noted that the partnership aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India “semiconductor-ready.” While PSMC’s largest operations are based in Taiwan, India is set to become one of the company’s top suppliers outside of Taiwan.
He praised the Tata Group as an ideal partner due to its strong capabilities, cost structure, and government support. This collaboration marks a significant step in India’s semiconductor ambitions, with PSMC offering technology licensing, design, and engineering support for the Dholera Fab.
PSMC had been searching for an Indian partner since February, following a recommendation from the Prime Minister’s Office. The facility in Gujarat will be India’s first AI-enabled greenfield semiconductor Fab.
