L&T Semicon to Begin Chip Production in Two Years

0

L&T Semiconductor Technologies, a fabless chip company, is set to start semiconductor production within the next two years, according to CEO Sandeep Kumar. The company will establish its own chip manufacturing facilities once it achieves a threshold revenue between $50 million and $1 billion, depending on the technology.

L&T is currently working on 15 product designs, with six already in progress. “We expect to have full capability by year-end, and production is projected to start in two years,” said Kumar. The company aims to reduce India’s dependency on foreign firms by focusing on indigenous product development.

L&T has also partnered with IBM for research and development on advanced processors, targeting applications in mobile phones, electric vehicles, and industrial electronics.

Kumar highlighted the strategic importance of retaining chip technology within India, ensuring it remains unaffected by geopolitical risks.
