India will remain Ericsson’s second-largest revenue market, despite its contribution to global revenue dipping to 5% in Q3 due to reduced 5G spending, said Andres Vicente, Ericsson’s head for Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India.

Vicente expressed optimism, citing Vodafone Idea’s gradual 5G rollout and rising demand from operators like Jio and Airtel. He noted 5G’s spectrum efficiency and cost savings, which will encourage further upgrades from 4G.

Ericsson’s $3.6 billion deal with Indian telcos, including INR 14,000 crore from Vodafone Idea, underscores its strong market presence. The company is also exploring future exports from its Pune factory while focusing on 5G deployment and innovation.

Fixed wireless access (FWA) and private 5G networks are expected to drive growth, and Vicente emphasized India’s leadership in 5G, AI, and digitalization, predicting strong monetization opportunities through APIs and network slicing. Ericsson aims to enhance R&D in India, particularly around 5G APIs for industry verticals.
